DARKSIDERS REVIEWWell this game is a massive apocalyptic adventure set with a story of heaven vs hell with the four horseman story where you are the sole horseman (WAR) fighting this terror world, where you will be using combat and puzzle strategies to beat this game.
First of all this game takes alot and borrows alot from games like GOD OF WAR, DEVIL MAY CRY, PORTAL and not forgetting ZELDA style games.
I couldn’t help but feel that some of the bosses were similar to DEMONS SOULS too, very similar style of beating them, which of course is a good thing, so with all that aside the game speaks in volumes for itself and becomes it’s own.
The action is spread out over a well-designed world; you will own and unlock a few weapons, combo moves and abilities which prove useful as you progress through the world and War eventually gains access to some nice powers.
The graphics are pretty decent overall, infact i don’t think i could fault them, it keeps a steady framerate all the way through.. i didn’t once come across and graphical bugs, it’s been polished.
The controls are very fluid and easy to master, however you might find the odd wierd camera angle on some weapon/control views which i feel they should of addressed because you might get stuck like i did by being pushed into a wall by a flying bat and get stuck, which is a nightmare in itself if you haven’t saved much, so back to the controls, square is your main button masher with combo moves being dealt via thumb sticks and shoulder buttons, like i say very easy to master and a joy to actually do! – getting at 14 hit combo with a deadly weapon = ultimate damage.
You also have a secondary weapon which you can unlock further into the game by meeting “vulgrim” who also acts as a vendor to upgrade as you go along, the secondary weapon is the “skythe” a grim reaper like weapon dealing combos and bone shattering moves via the triangle and shoulder buttons, mix n match the buttons triangle and sqaure for some epic combos!
As mentioned vulgrim not only acts as your vendor he also can let you traverse from locations you have explored, which come sin handy when you want to get somewhere fast, although looking at the same wormhole scenery becomes a bit samey..but that being said its hardly an issue really.
You will face a variety of enemies; some alot harder than others and you will also been thrown into a HUGE arena later in the game where you have to fight off some monstrous -nasty-giants
but i won’t be spoling that here.
You get some really good but challenging puzzles on the way, thats right it’s not all hack n slash or button bash..you have to use your brain in some worlds to unlock different doors, collect keys and figure out how to activate special locations, darksiders teases you with what your supposed to do with cutscenes, but essentially figuring them out is all down to you, no hints or tips or anything to help you
.
The bosses in this game are something i really enjoyed, i found one boss seem to be fairly hard overall compared to many others, the final boss for me was a bit of a letdown it was far to easy, or perhaps i became a-customed to the way the game worked, I don’t know..but still very enjoyable none the less.
I have recorded some boss battle videos which you can find on “my videos” section at the top of the page.
So Darksiders?
If you looking for a action/adventure game which pits heaven vs hell and some beastly god like bosses and some epic gameplay which will keep you busy for a good 20 hours on normal mode, then i recommend darksiders..it is worth every penny it sells for right now and will keep you entertained with big thumb aches – and maybe brain ache ont he puzzles? lol.
For me i rate games out of 5 and i am giving this a 4!
Loved this game, not a big single player fan, but my god this game rocked!
